The Manhyia Palace delegation on Monday called on the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to officially invite government for the final funeral rites of Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwah Ampem.
A seven member delegation from Manhyia in Kumasi, in the Ashanti regional capital announced to the President of the burial of the late Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom, scheduled for next week.
According to them, the late mother of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu will be laid in state for three days from, 16th-18th, January before the final burial.
As custom demands, the 7 member delegation led by Nana Nsuase Poku Agyemang III, the Chief Linguist of the Otumfuo presented 6 aromatic schnapps to the President to officially invite him for the funeral of the late Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom.
The late mother of Otumfuo will be interred at the Breman Banmu(royal mausoleum) Thursday dawn, January 19th, after the necessary rites are done.
Nana Akufo-Addo said the death of the Queen mother of the Asante Kingdom affected him because of his long standing relationship and friendship that existed between the late Queen mother and him.
He said he received the news of the demise of the late Afia Serwaa Ampem Kobi with shock, and promised that he’ll do all in his power to move with his entourage to attend the funeral of Otumfuo’s mother scheduled next week.
Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II died on Monday November 17, at the age of 111, after reigning for 39 years. She was said to have died peacefully in her sleep.
