A pastor has apologised for filming a disabled woman being towed along the road in her broken-down wheelchair by a truck.
Lamong Rushing’s video showed Becky Kittrell hitching a ride home on the freezing streets of Kansas City after her electric wheelchair failed.
The clip, which he posted on Facebook, was shared thousands of times and drew cruel jibes about the obese woman.
In the footage, Mr Rushing – a pastor at Faith Worship Family Center – can heard saying: “Only in Kansas City. Do y’all see this right here?”
Ms Kitrell, who does not use Facebook, later learned through her son that she had become an online sensation.
She later told local broadcaster Fox 4 News she had been freezing cold and wanted to get home, and that good Samaritans in pick-up truck had offered to help.
She said: “If I get stuck for a period of time and stuff, I get so cold I’ll be like, “I have to get home.”‘
And Ms Kittrell criticised the pastor for filming her struggle, adding: “He should have just came and asked me something, if I needed some help or something.”
Mr Rushing said he had not intended to be cruel and had taken down the video after hearing Ms Kittrell was upset.
He added: “I would apologise from the bottom of my heart. I would never ever intend to try to make fun of her or anything like that.”
