The bodies of five persons who drowned in the Offin River at Amaadaa in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region after a canoe capsized, have been retrieved by a rescue team.
This follows the Ashanti Regional NADMO Coordinator Hon. Kwabena Nsenkyire providing them with life jackets to undertake the rescue exercise.
Seven (7) out of the thirteen (13) farmers who fell into the river were able to swim to safety, but one person was found dead by the rescue team.
The dead bodies which were retrieved Monday include that of an eight-month-old baby and 10-year-old, both girls.
A 38 year old woman was rescued by the rescue team immediately after the incident happened.
The Atwima Mponua NPP constituency organizer Hon. Obuobi Bismarck who confirmed the retrieval of the bodies to Kumasi based Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo, said the life jackets helped the rescue team to retrieve the bodies.
