Leaders of Foase in the Atwima Kwawoma District of the Ashanti region have called on the IGP, David Asante Apeatu to cause investigations into the clash between residents and a team Police/Military which led to the death of three persons.
Two persons died instantly while others sustained severe injuries in the clash on Wednesday February 7, 2018, after they locked up the District Chief Executive of Atwima Kwawoma District Hon Okyere Tawiah over relocation of District capital from Foase to Twedie.
The Assembly Man for Ofoase-Edwenase Electoral area Christain Okyere addressing the media Friday, denied allegations made by police that residents exchanged gunshots with the police during the clash.
He accused police and military team that came to the incident scene of failing to maintain law and order.
“We are calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante Apeatu, President Nana Addo to conduct proper investigation into the matter. We don’t have guns to face the police and the military team. We have evidence which prove that they came here just to kill us. They have killed three persons. Something needs to be done.”
Christian Okyere however called on President Nana Addo to do something about the Supreme Court order that the District capital should move from Ofoase to Twedie.
“Though Supreme Court ordered that the District capital should go to Twedie, something must be done to help save lives. If the district capital relocates to Twedie and people will die why should we implement the court order. We must think about lives first rather than moving the District capital” he said.
