The embattled former Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Ernest Thompson has served notice that he’ll sue the current Director General of SSNIT, Dr. John Ofori Tenkorang for defamation.
According to him, Dr Ofori Tenkorang has sullied his hard earned reputation with his baseless allegations about him.
Some four officials of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) including the former Director General, Ernest Thompson have been charged with willfully causing financial loss to the state.
Their indictment is as a result of an investigation by EOCO on the procurement of an ICT Software costing $72 million.
The four were arrested on Wednesday morning, on the heels of an audit undertaken by PricewaterhouseCoopers Ghana, which indicted them following the murky issues from the $72 million spent by SSNIT on Operational Business Suite (OBS) in a bid to digitize the Trust.
Chairman of the board of SSNIT, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor told a news conference Wednesday “Four people from SSNIT have been indicted and they are going to the Attorney General’s office maybe today,”
The current Director General, Dr Ofori Tenkorang has made several allegations against his predecessor including accusing Mr Thompson of enjoying first-class services for his foreign trips.while in office, a claim Mr Thompson has denied.
Lawyer for Mr Thompson, Abedenego Tetteh Mensah in an interview with Akwasi Nsiah on Si mi so on Kasapa FM said his client will proceed to court to clear his name.
“He [SSNIT DG] should be warned, all along we kept quiet because we wanted EOCO to do its work. Haven’t you heard the Attorney General coming out to say that he’s not charged anyone? We’ll sue the Director-General of SSNIT for defamation, he’ll be hauled before court so that he spends more time there. We realize he has enough time to be granting media interviews instead of concentrating on his work.”
