The wreckage caused by last Wednesday’s floods could have been avoided, the Ghana Meteorological Service say.

Meteo officials say they are disappointed their advice to city authorities and Disaster Management Agencies was ignored.

In an interview with Ultimate FM’s Eno Safo, Head of Research at the Meteorological Service, Charles York said “the weather warning was given at 17:38 GMT on the 3rd of June, 2015.”

“You give warnings and people do not even care whatever you are going to say- People do not even take warnings seriously,” he said.

There are arguments for a robust national emergency policy.

A heavy downpour on Wednesday evening at about 5:30 pm claimed more than hundred lives.
