A stakeholders meeting to sensitize and collate views of chiefs and people in the Asante-Akim North District ahead of the preliminary seismic work on the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation’s (GNPC) discoveries on more oilfields on the Voltaian Basin Project has taken off  at Agogo.

Locals in about 66 communities in 24 districts where the seismic line passes, have been engaged ahead of the project scheduled to begin in March, 2016.

The project would be implemented over a period of two years.

It is jointly spearheaded by the Ghana National Petroleum Company and the Petroleum Ministry.

Mr Seth Foli, Environmental Engineer of the GNPC says a committee has been put in place to ensure those affected by the activity are adequately compensated.

Mr. Peter Anarfi, the Ashanti Regional Minister, welcomed the project and has urged the people to cooperate with the GNPC.
