The Director of Elections of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said that inasmuch as the Presidential candidate slot is an opened contest for its members, it would be useless for anyone to challenge the sitting President.

“It is the record of the NDC under President John Mahama for the four years, that we are going to campaign on in the 2016 elections; and that is the truth”

“It’s therefore critical for anyone to do a proper assessment of his/herself before embarking on such decision. To be frank, a candidate whom the party is set to campaign on his vision, project and records for the 2016 elections, I wonder how anybody will dare contesting him, he told Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Thursday.

George Boateng, Mahama’s challenger has told Kasapa 102.3 FM, he will pick another Presidential nomination forms on Monday.

The President’s contender early this week picked his forms from the party head office, but the party insists he was issued the wrong form which the party officials say is a draft copy of the original forms.

However, the Director of Elections of the NDC maintained that the party will not risk opening its platform for nonentities to contest the sitting President.

“Presidential contest is not a joke, whereby those who wish to contest will get up and pronounce on radio that if given the chance he’ll legalise and export wee in the country.

“We won’t bring our party to that level; it’s a serious party and we want very serious people to do business with the party. We don’t want anybody to come and toy with the lives of the party people. I don’t have anything against him, but he should check himself well before coming back again.”
