A political Scientist, Dr. Amoako Baah says the Police consistent behaviour of blocking public demonstrations leaves cracks in the democratic principles of the country.
He feared such behaviour if not checked will get to the level where demonstrations, which he described as the right of Ghanaian citizens can only be permitted when the police feels comfortable with it.
He says it’s not the best for “a state institution to behave this way, should the Police be seen in court always seeking a restraining order to prevent people from embarking on their demonstrations”
Dr. Amoako Baah interacting with host Kwaku Owusu Agyei on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.3 FM Tuesday, said the Judge who granted the said injunction must review the case again and strike out his earlier ruling, because of the prosecution errors made on the case.
He believes the Police are being pressured to take unreasonable stance against LMVCA demonstration which has led to an impasse between the two parties.
Meanwhile, Private Legal Practitioner, Samson Lardy Ayenini has argued that the Police yesterday manipulated facts in court to enable it get its way through in injuncting , a planned demonstration by pressure group, Let My Vote Count Alliance and others.
He says the move is a dirty trick by the Police to swerve legalities involved in the court proceedings, hence the prosecutor must be dealt with according to law.
“To a large extent, this was a deliberate attempt to deceive the court; it’s an abuse of the court process. What the Police did was in bad faith-such terrible bad faith. The prosecutor that handled that case must be brought to book. The two judges that presided over the matter will surely be scandalized upon hearing the real substance of the case yesterday.”
