Three persons believe to be car snatching syndicate have been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command.
The suspects, Jerry Danquah 25,driver,David Asare 26,a trader and Isaac Donkor, aka, Kofi Nyakamago 27,a basket weaver.
The forth suspect, one Dauda is presently at large.
Briefing the media in Accra Wednesday, the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno said on October 4, 2015 at about 2.15am, the suspects, armed with a pump action gun, broke into a house at New Bortianor, a suburb of Accra.
The four attacked the victim, subjected him to severe beatings and tied him with his own flying tie and made away with one HP Laptop Computer, an ipad phone,a samsung phone,set of Jewelries and an amount of six hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢600.00).
The suspects not satisfied with these items, further demanded for the victim’s ignition key to his Toyota Hilux Pickup parked on the compound and drove it away together with their booty.
According to DCOP Yohuno, with the help of a car tracking device, the Police managed to intercept the vehicle at Chopoli barrier along the Sogakope road, within an hour as they were heading towards Togo.
He said the police preliminary investigations have revealed that one Dauda, the leader of the gang, offered his taxi cab with registration number GE 8860-11 for the operation, but failed to accompany them to Sogakope for the sale of the vehicle and the stolen items.
The four suspects, he said had a similar operation on September 19, 2015, at about 1:30am where they attacked an accountant in his resident at Atta Moses Down, a suburb of Weija.
He said the suspects gained access to the victim’s apartment through the kitchen door and with the same modus, requested for the key to the V8 4X4 vehicle at knife point.
On that same day, as the suspects were trying to escape, lack eluded them and they were involved in an accident at Denu.
The Police Commander said the suspects after their arrest were put before court and fined an amount of seven hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC700) and in default, four months imprisonment with High Labour.
He said the suspects quickly mobilized some money to pay the fine to enable them take the vehicle away but were hit in the face with a surprise package when the Police demanded for the documents covering the vehicle.
According to him, since the suspects could not produce the documents, they did not turn up again until they were re-arrested in Accra.
He said upon interrogations, the suspects admitted the offence and would soon be processed for court.
Meanwhile the Police have retrieved all the stolen items and the six hundred Ghana Cedis (GH¢ 600.00) they took from one of their victims.
The police, the Regional Commander noted, have intensified their search for Dauda who is presently at large.
