President-elect Nana Akufo Addo has revealed that upon his assumption of power on January 7, the out-going Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto will be his Agric Minister if approved by Parliament.

Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has been the Minority in Parliament spokesperson on Agriculture for several years taking the outgoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) government on, on what he insist has been an abysmal performance of the sector under the eight year rule of the NDC.

Nana Akufo-Addo believes Dr Afriyie Akoto has the competence to resuscitate the Agric sector which has been underperforming for years.

“The Kumasi people will recognise Amadu Baba of Kwame Nkrumah’s time, he had a great friend in the Asantehene’s Kyeame, (senior linguist), Baffour Akoto, this is his son who is the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso today, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.”

 “He is our spokesperson on Agriculture and if the Parliament will pass him, he is likely to be the Minister of Agriculture,” said Nana Akufo Addo.

President Elect, Nana Akufo Addo, made the dislosure when he received a delegation of some Zongo chiefs at his Nima Residence in Accra.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, an experienced farmer who holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from Cambridge University, UK.
