The Ghana Medical and Dental Council is expected to shut down the Advanced Body Sculpt Centre, the Obengfo Hospital at Weija in Accra, later today, January 5, 2017 after it was discovered that the facility was operating without a license.

According the Council, the illegal operation of the practitioner is putting the lives of the clients in danger.

A team from the Mental and Dental Council and the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service visited the facility Wednesday to evacuate patients and subsequently close down the hospital, but the owner failed to cooperate with officials.

However, the Deputy Registrar for the Council, Dr. Divine Banyubala said it has a responsibility to protect the lives of the public, hence their action.

“The core value of the Medical and Dental Council is to guide the profession and protect the public. And we take that responsibility really seriously. It is not an interest to lock down the facility but to ensure that the facility is cooperated under circumstances that we can guarantee patient care and safety,” he said.

It will be recalled that Dr. Dominic Obeng-Andoh, owner and Chief Executive of the Obengfo Hospital years ago became a subject of media bashing after a radio station in Accra reported that three persons with undisclosed identities, who went to the facility for ‘liposuction’, had suffered life threatening complications.

Meanwhile, Dr. Dominic Obeng Andoh is on record to have boasted of being the only doctor in Ghana with the expertise to perform liposuction procedure, which is a surgical withdrawal of excess fat from areas under the skin.
