Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has justified spending his 79th birthday with Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the Chief Executive Officer of JOSPONG Group of companies which is being investigated for alleged corruption.

Mr Kufour who celebrated his recent birthday on December 8, 2017, marked the day with staff and management of the Jospong Group of Companies which also coincided with the annual Thanksgiving Service of the company to appreciate the goodness of the Lord towards the entities under the group in 2017.

The Jospong Group of companies has been at the centre of a new scandal in which officers of the company are accused of allegedly inflating prices for some contracts it won during the administration of the John Mahama led administration.

President Akufo Addo’s recent subtle endorsement of the JOSPONG group CEO when he visited one of their facilities in Accra sparked hue and cry among anti corruption organization with lots of condemnation being heaped on the President.

Even the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo slammed the President’s action saying it cannot be right if the alleged corrupt deeds of Joseph Siaw Agyapong’s company are found to be true.

He said it will be inappropriate for the president to be seen to be endorsing a wrong doer.

But speaking to Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Starr FM, Wednesday, ex President J.A Kufuor said he found nothing wrong with celebrating an important day in his life with such an industrious son of the land.

“If they listened to me I cited the Korean experience, a time was when all the major Korean companies you hear of today their captains were put into jail and things like that. The system of Korea was dubbed as corrupt but their governments had a second thought, released them and guided them, now they’re the rulers of the world Samsung and the rest. So when you find a venturist that can do it, use regulatory mechanisms and let them continue to create.”
