The Advertisers Association of Ghana and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly on Sunday began a joint operation to remove illegal billboards sited along some major roads in the capital.

According to City authorities, the move is to declutter the streets of billboards, banners and Posters among others.

Flagpoles placed on pedestrian walkways have also been earmarked for removal by the AMA personnel.

The AMA last year announced it was putting plans in place to sanitise advertising spaces by pulling down unpermitted signage along the streets.

There are concerns to a number of these billboards as they’ve become threats to public safety following some recorded cases of it collapsing onto people.
