Political Pressure Group, Alliance for Accountable Governance(AFAG) wants the three top officials of the Electoral Commission(EC) to be interdicted pending the conclusion of investigations into various allegations of misconduct and financial malfeasance.
According to the group, the continuous stay in office of the EC Chair, Charlotte Osei and her two Deputies, Sulley Amadu, and Georgina Opoku Amankwah won’t guarantee credible investigation.
Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo set up a committee to look into the calls for Osei’s possible removal by some petitioners while the Economic and Organized Crime Organization(EOCO) also launched investigations into the financial malfeasance of the other two top leaders of the election management body.
However, Vice Chairman of AFAG, Henry Asante at a news conference held earlier on Thursday, 25 January, asked President Akufo-Addo to direct the three officials to proceed on leave.
“The workers of the EC, some of them, took it upon themselves – based on certain allegations they learnt that the woman has done, together with the commissioners – petitioned the presidency; you know how difficult it is to complain about your boss to a higher authority, but they braced it and a prima facie case has been found against them, so, the question is: why are they still in office?” AFAG questioned.
