It has emerged that some Policemen are involved in the sale and renting of firearms to criminals for armed robbery operations in the streets, an ex-convict, name withheld has told Kasapa 102.5 FM.

According to him, there are some criminals who have infiltrated the Police Service and are informants to the criminals calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apietu to purge the Police Service of such criminals in uniform.

“As I speak to you now, there are a lot of police officers who are in partnership with the criminals and rent guns to them for robbery. I can facilitate the rental of guns for you right now, if you’ll challenge me. You’ll be shocked the number of guns in circulation. Ghana we’re not safe, until the security agencies make a combined raid to retrieve those arms. There are people on the grounds who are ready to work with the Police to retrieve all those arms,” he told host Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM.

He’s called for coordinated action against the proliferation and trafficking in small arms, warning that the phenomenon will soon break down national security in the country.

He explained that the trend has undoubtedly intensified [the] violence and surge of crime in the society, urging the security agencies to move aggressively against the large number of small arms in circulation.

His comments come on the back of the daylight armed robbery at Industrial area in Accra Tuesday.

At least two persons sustained gunshot wounds following an armed robbery incident at the Royal Motors at the Industrial Area in Accra.

Reports say the robbers amidst sporadic gunshots invaded the area and bolted with at least Gh¢8000 of the company’s sales.

They’d  followed a bullion van which had arrived at the premises to collect the previous day’s sales, according to eyewitness account.

The gunmen numbering about four accosted the security man on duty and seized his phones, and the secretary of the company, while they carried out the operation.

They however, snatched a car, abandoned their vehicle at the scene and made away with the booty.

Meanwhile, the Police has picked up two persons to assist in investigations into the incident.
