A contingent of armed Military men have stormed Dalun, in the Kumbungu District of the Northern Region and destroyed 14 Tipper trucks and an excavator at the Dalun River, a tributary of the White Volta where there’s indiscriminate sand winning activities.

The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) last month gave a week ultimatum to all persons engaged in the sand winning activities at the site to relocate the upstream of the river to the downstream to prevent it from drying.

This was after it the REGSEC received a complaint from the Ghana Water Company that the activities of the sand winners is leading to the degradation and silting of the river which is making it difficult for water to be treated for residents of Tamale and other towns.

The soldiers were ruthless in their action and it is expected that will serve as a deterrent to other sand winners.
