The Member of Parliament for Keta, Richard Quashigah has slammed the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), John Kumah, accusing him of only busying himself globe trotting instead of being efficient at discharging his duties.

According to him, John Kumah has abysmally performed as he has failed to support businesses by young entrepreneurs which is his mandate.

Hon. Quashigah’s criticism of John Kumah comes after the latter made a controversial claim that the Nana Akufo-Addo government has so far ensured the establishment of 19 factories nationwide under the One-district One-factory programme.

Mr. Kumah said he was present at the commissioning of the 19th factory (Lan T Soy Milk Factory) at Asutsuare in the Shai Osuduku District of the Greater Accra region.

He was however unable to list all the factories.

The Minister of Trade, Alan Kyerematen, was hauled before Parliament on Wednesday to brief the House on the projects, but he was unable to give statistics.

He however told Parliament that 329 proposals for the construction of factories under the 1 district, 1 factory programme have been successfully screened by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Answering questions from the Minority in Parliament on how many factories had been established so far, Mr. Kyerematen also said his Ministry had received over 700 proposals, adding that significant progress had been made on the creation of factories.

Speaking to host Kweku Owusu Agyei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Friday, Hon. Quashigah who’s also the Deputy Ranking Member of Parliament’s Committee on Employment, dismissed the claims as asserted by John Kumah saying there’s neither the Minister for Trade and Industry Alan Kyeremateng his deputy Robert Ahomka Lindsay nor the 1 District 1 Factory Secretariat has been able to tell Ghanaians the definite number of factories that have been established so far under the programme.

“John Kumah who has been given a small outfit to handle which he cannot even handle is now telling us that the Minister doesn’t even know his job abd that 19 factories have been established. He even knows more than the President because the President was asked about this issue and he told Ghanaians that the answers will be provided in March, the President never got back to Ghanaians. So John Kumah even knows more than the President. Hefeels he’s still in opposition to be massaging lies, he should be very careful and take Ghanaians seriously. Unfortunately 1 District 1 Factory is not working.”
