The Minister for Aviation Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah on Wednesday, 8th August 2018 commissioned three ultra modern Air Navigation equipment at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority headquarters.
The air navigation equipment will greatly enhance communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management within the Accra Flight Information Region (FIR) thereby helping to keep Ghana’s airspace efficient, safe, and secure.
The newly installed equipment include:
– HIGH FREQUENCY (HF) RADIOS which provide Controller-Pilot communications in the remote oceanic portions of our Flight Information Region (FIR).
– STATE OF THE ART AIR TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT (ATM) SYSTEM which provides situational awareness to Air Traffic Controllers as well as tools and alerts
which assist them in separating Aircraft to ensure the safety of flight operations
– VERY SMALL APERTURE TERMINAL (VSAT) which enables Ghana to extend the range of its voice communications between air traffic controllers and pilots and
also integrate remote radar data to ensure effective aircraft surveillance over the whole of Ghana’s continental airspace.
