The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba is billed to hold a Press Conference on Friday, March 15, 2019 following the current impasse at the University.
This comes on the heels of the intervention by the Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah who has directed the Governing Council to restore calm at UEW as soon as possible.
Professor Kwesi Yankah after a meeting with the University authorities for several hours, asked the governing Council to ensure that normalcy returns to the school.
Highlighting on the details of the said meeting with the university on Tuesday, the Minister said “ the issue that emerged between us in the interaction was for the Council to take whatever steps that are necessary to ensure that peace and harmony returns to campus within the shortest possible term to ensure that normal academic work resumes and that the students go back to school and the lecturers continue teaching if they have boycotted classes.”
A circular issued by the Registrar on behalf of the University said the Presser scheduled at 1p.m on Friday will afford the Governing Council an opportunity “to respond to all the issues concerning the University that have gained attention in the media in the last few days”
Aggrieved Students of the University of Education, Winneba hit the streets again this morning protesting against the recent dismissal of some senior staff of the school by the Vice Chancellor despite the intervention by Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah urging them to return to their classrooms on Wednesday.
Some of the students boycotted lectures on Wednesday intensifying protests in the university campus.
Both the University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG) and Afenyo-Markin have a common position calling for the head of the VC,Prof. Afful-Broni over the disturbances seen in the University for the past days.
This comes on the back of the dismissal of some senior staff of the school.
