The Defence Ministry, Military High Command and other security Agencies will today witness the unveiling of the monument in Honour of Slain Military officer, Major Maxwell Mahama.
The ceremony will mark two years since the gruesome murder of the Soldier at Denkyira Obuasi in the Central Region.
Meanwhile, a group calling itself the Coalition of La Youth (COLA) wants President Nana Akufo-Addo to order the Ghana Armed Forces to stop putting up the statue of Late Major Maxwell Mahama on the land of La, sited at the Airport Hills Roundabout.
The coalition contends that the statue of the slain soldier should rather be mounted at Denkyira Obuasi where he was killed almost two years ago, and not on the land of La.
Major Mahama who was the Commander of the Military detachment stationed at Diaso in the Upper Denkyira West district met his untimely death on 29th May, 2017.
He was attacked by locals upon suspicion that he was an armed robber, while embarking on a morning jogging along the Diaso- Ayamfuri stretch, Police report said.
At least, seven suspects were remanded in connection with the crime, but not a single soul been convicted of the crime.
Meanwhile, the family say they’re unhappy with the pace of prosecution in the matter.
