Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfuor has condemned agitating residents at Krobo area following recurring clashes between locals and Police over PDS mass disconnection exercise.
Mr. Kwakye Darfuor in the wake of the disturbances has asked that locals should be weaned off the national grid if they can’t pay their electricity bills.
He said the only thing which is free in Ghana which they can enjoy is free shs and not electricity.
He said this in a REGSEC and Stakeholders meeting currently ongoing at Odumase.
The Eastern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) led by the Eastern Regional Minister Eric Kwakye Darfuor and the Eastern Regional Police Commander ,COP Alphonse Adu Amankwah stormed the troubled Lower Manya Krobo Municipality today following spontaneous riots in the area triggered by mass disconnection exercise by Power Distribution Services(PDS).
REGSEC first held a meeting with MUSEC chaired by the Municipal Chief Executive for lower Manya Krobo, Simon Kwaku Tetteh before proceeding to the Palace of the Paramount Chief of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakitey II.
Also accompanied was some delegation from PDS in Manya Krobo Area.
Meanwhile the Lower Manya Krobo District Assembly has called off its scheduled Assembly Meeting despite the arrival of some Assembly Members.
About 35 suspects were arrested in yesterday’s bloody riot.
