National Chief Imam

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaian writers and authors alike to document by way of biographies the lives of the many heroes and heroines the country can boast of for it to serve as a source of reference to the next generation.

Dr. Bawumia made the call at the Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel as the special guest at the launch of the biography of the Chief Imam, his Eminence , Dr. Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, entitled “A Gift to the Nation”.

“There are many more heroes and heroines whose exemplary lives ought to be documented properly in a book. I want to encourage the author and many others with similar intentions to give us more biographies of our national heroes and heroines” Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said.

The launch of the biography entitled “A Gift to the Nation” is part of the year-long activities to celebrate the centenary (100th) birthday of the Chief Imam.

The Vice President in his address described the biography as “a reverting account of the exemplary life and values of an astute teacher, an outstanding leader, an empathetic philanthropist, a tireless unifier, an ideal Imam and a peaceful man”.

“A Gift to the Nation”, is a gift to you and I. Please buy the book, read and get some blessings” the Vice President admonished the participants at the launching.

In all a total of One Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 152, 000.00) was realised when the books were auctioned. President Akufo Addo though absent, bought a copy of the book for 20,000.00 Ghana Cedis. Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, took a copy hone for 10,000.00 Ghana Cedis. Alhaji Fasuq Gonda, also bought a copy of the book for 20,000.00 Ghana Cedis. Former President John Dramani Mahama through the Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who represented him also purchase a copy for 10,000.00 Ghana Cedis and retired boxer and national hero, Professor Azuma Nelson took home a copy of the biography for 5,000.00 Ghana Cedis. – Wilberforce Asare
