The National Chairperson of the ruling New Patriotic Party Freddie Blay says there is a deliberate attempt by the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to undermine the ongoing voter’s registration exercise with their tribal tirade.

“The NDC is desperately trying to undermine the simple and peaceful exercise of voters’ registration into one of ethnocentrism, outright fabrications, needless exaggerations, and old fashioned fear-mongering propaganda and inferior communists tactics,” the NPP chairman told a press conference in Accra Tuesday.

Despite this, he said the Election Management Body(EMB) has shown its true mettle amidst the chaos created by the main opposition NDC.

“It has not been very smooth, I must say, but the Electoral Commission, the only institution with sole authority to determine elections has had to prove its mettle during this exercise,” Mr Blay said.

Meanwhile, the largest opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has lambasted President Akufo Addo for what it says is his hypocrisy and dishonesty for claiming that he’s unaware of intimidation by any group of people at voters registration centres across the country.

“Despite the fact that some of the shameful incidents have been widely reported in the traditional and social media space, President Akufo Addo who is the sponsor, promoter and ultimate beneficiary of the ongoing electoral ethnocentrism and tribal bigotry has failed to take any action to nib these disturbing acts in the bud.

“We in the NDC are not surprised by the posturing of President Akufo Addo towards this rather worrying trend because this has always been his plan. This is why he has chosen to see nor hear evil about any infamy or injustice to the Ghanaian people once it advances his electoral fortunes.”
