The Supreme Court is expected to hear an application for stay of proceedings in the ongoing presidential election petition today [Thursday, February 18, 2021].

This comes after former President Mahama’s lawyers on Tuesday, filed an application for review of the court’s earlier ruling on February 11, 2021 praying the court to cause the respondents to put forth witnesses in the matter.

The court had ruled that the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa, could not be compelled to testify in the election petition hearing.

In the same vein, the apex court shot down Mr. Mahama’s application to re-open his case and also subpoena the EC Chairperson to testify as an adverse witness.

The apex court had earlier directed all parties in the hearing to file their written addresses by Thursday, February 17, 2021, and subsequently pave way for oral submissions.
