A 26-year-old mentally deranged former level 400 Bsc Accounting student of University of Professional Studies (UPSA) has been arrested by Police for chasing out family members with a gun at Akyem Oda.

Benjamin Asihene, at midnight, pulled a pistol in the family house at Akyem Oda and threatened to kill the family members occupying the house. This compelled the family members to vacate the house for safety.

The Akim Oda police upon receipt of information went to the scene and met the suspect bare-chested on the corridor of a two-storey building.

He told the police he will not come down until he sees the girlfriend.

“At about 12:48am, police had information about a man armed with a pistol on a storey building at Oda town threatening to shoot people at the scene around the total filing station, police saw a bare-chested young man wielding a black pistol and standing on the corridor of the last floor of the two-storey family house in Oda” DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command said.

He added that “the suspect threatened to kill all his family members . so the family members vacated and called for help. When the police gave a warning shot, the suspect removed the magazine and dropped the pistol and the magazine to the ground. He refused to come down unless he saw his girlfriend, a fetish priest and his sister living in Accra.”

The suspect however came down when one of his brothers persuaded him.

He was immediately taken to the police station.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the 26-year-old Benjamin Atihene is a 26-year-old level 400 Bsc accounting student at the University of Professional studies, Accra. He has not been to campus for the past six months. He is reported to have exhibited an unstable mental condition and has been at Ankaful Psychiatric hospital..

The Akim Oda District Police command is investigating the incident .
