William Amponsah and Lariba Sakat won the ultimate of the maiden edition of 2021 Citi TV and good day energy drink cross country race on Sunday November 21.
The 25 year old Lariba Sakat of The Ghana Armed Forces and University of Education student, William Amponsah outshined at the maiden of the good energy cross country race.
The 12-km race which began at the Brekusu-Ashesi University road and ended at the Peduase Lodge saw about 300 long-distance runners chasing for the ultimate prize.
In all, Amponsah and Sakat dominated the male and female category of the race with a time of 38.40s and 47.47s respectively to emerge champions.
Both showed class again as they dominated their categories again after winning the 2021 Asante Akyem Marathon and were awarded an amount of GH¢ 5,000.
Amponsah finished ahead of Koogo Attia who clocked 40.10s, and Atalar Samuel taking the third position with a time of 40.51. For their efforts, Attia and Awuni received GH¢ 3,000 and GH¢ 1,500 respectively, and products from Good Day Energy drinks.
In the Women’s category, first runner up Titi Rosina finished the race with 52.24s, whilst Sherifa Moro came third with a time of 53.05s.
Also, the Ghana Armed Forces team won the men’s team event with 18 points, ahead of Daakye Team from the Ashanti Region and High Moral Team from Ho came third whilst the Asante Team won the women’s division with 28 points followed by the Ghana Armed Forces and the Upper West Region.
After the event, Lariba Sakat thanked the almighty God for her success and shared the secret in her success.
“I always train and with hard work and determination it’s easy for you to get the success, though the route was difficult, with perseverance I made it”- she said.
William Amponsah also shared his thoughts according to him, he always had the mentality of winning and that kept me going.
“I always have the mentality of winning, as a winner I need to always have this in mind, though the race was not easy and the rest of the competitors were also optimistic to win , I had to put in my all.
“I’m really grateful to the management of Good day energy drink for putting up this great activity. “he said.
Furthermore, General Manager of Ocean Merchants producers of Good day energy drink, Alexander Botwe also made his submission after the race.
He said, “I noticed a lot of youth in the country have more love for sports, so therefore I had to bring this on board to make them have more love for the act. Also our main aim is to assist athletes within the country to come up strongly as they compete with each other’.
