As part of activities to mark this year’s Christmas celebrations, the Calvary Charismatic Centre, Ghana, has made a donation to the Ashanti Regional Chapter of the Ghana Blinds Union.
The donation which was at the church premises included bags of rice, boxes of cooking oil, mackerel, tin tomatoes, and spaghetti.
The overseer of the church, Rev. Ransford Obeng charged Christians to emulate such gestures as exemplified in the spirit of Christmas where God gave his son as his best gift to the world.
“Christmas is a time of giving because God gave his best gift of his only son and so during Christmas, Christians must seize the opportunity to give to help others,” he admonished.
Expressing his appreciation, the President of the Ashanti Regional Chapter of the Ghana Blinds Union George Kyeremanteng disclosed sadly that, about 99.5% of their six thousand registered members, the majority of whom were aged and orphaned; lived below the poverty line.
“We have about 6000 members from across all the 43 districts of the Ashanti Region. Out of this number, you will be sad to note that 99.5% are unemployed. Some are the same time orphans, aged and what have you, Mr. Kyeremanteng noted.”
Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations Mr. Alfred Amponsah Tebi commended the church for its continuous donation of hundreds of white canes and welfare donations to the union.
This will not be the only donation of the church to the Ghana Blind Union. The union keeps receiving hundreds of white canes to support it during White Cane Safety Days, to aid mobility of the blind in the region.
