Akufo-Addo assenting to E-levy

President Nana Akufo-Addo has on Thursday signed into law the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) Bill.

The move by the President 48 hours after a one-sided Majority MPs in Parliament approved the Bill, allows for the implementation of the levy.

Parliament passed the bill on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at a time Minority MPs had walked out of the House.

The levy, which was reduced from 1.75 percent to 1.5 percent on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, will be a tax on electronic transactions, which includes mobile-money payments.

The charge will apply to electronic transactions that are more than GH¢100 on a daily basis.

Meanwhile, three Minority MPs have filed a suit at the Supreme Court to challenging the passage of the bill.
