The flagbearer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, has condemned the killing of his “good friend” and the “very vibrant” Upper East regional chairman of the party, Adams Mahama.
The “heartbroken” leader of the party has described today, Thursday May 21, 2015 as “a very sad day for all of us in the NPP.”
“I’ve just been informed about this tragic incident that has taken place in my absence from the country… Condolences to his wife and his family and calling upon the almighty God to give them the strength to bear this very terrible loss,” he said from his base in Europe.
He, however, urged the party members to “stay calm”.
“Nobody should take the law into their own hands… the matter is in the hands of the police.”
Nana Addo is currently in The Netherlands after visiting Germany on a 16-day European tour.
“I am cutting short my trip to Europe to come back home to join everybody in the party and in the country to say goodbye to our fallen colleague and then would soon see what needs to be done within the party and outside to respond to the situation.
“I’m heartbroken, he’s a good friend of mine, was a very strong aide to former Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama, he was a strong party person,” Nana Addo added.
