The United States government will soon deport seven thousand Ghanaians living in that country who have abused the terms of their Visas.
The affected Ghanaianas are currently at different stages of the deportation process, the US ambassador to Ghana Robert Jackson disclosed to the media in the Brong Ahafo region Thursday.
“In fact about 7000 of them are currently at different stages of the deportation process. And we are not apologetic about that.”
The revelation comes on the heels of a 10-year ban imposed on three sitting members of Ghana’s parliament and a former one by the UK following their involvement in visa fraud.
They are Richard Acheampong, NDC MP for Bia East in the Western region (NDC), Joseph Benhazin Dahah, NPP MP for Ntotroso in the Brong Ahafo region, Johnson Kwaku Adu, NPP MP for Ahafo Ano South West in the Ashanti region and George Boakye, former MP for Asunafo South in the Brong Ahafo region.
The four, according to the commission, have used their diplomatic passports to secure visas for persons who travelled to the UK and never returned.
A correspondence forwarded to the Speaker of Parliament by the UK government through the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Jon Benjamin, said ” The British High Commission (BHC) would like, in confidence, to bring the following matters to your attention, regarding the apparent involvement of three serving MPs and one former MP in visa fraud directly affecting the United Kingdom.”
The confidential letter said the MPs in question- violated UK visa regulations on different occasions by either providing false information for their visa applications or facilitating the visas of some relatives who overstayed their visas in the UK.
“Administrative measures have been taken to ensure that the Honourable members mentioned here will most likely not be granted visas for the UK within the next 10 years, the letter addressed to Prof Mike Oquaye said.
