The Young Cadres Association (YCA), a political youth activist group affiliated to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has written to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, appealing to him to immediately cause the arrest and prosecution of Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba and Bukari Rockson.

In the opinion of the group, once the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and the Upper East Regional Minister’s names have been mentioned as having a hand in the gruesome murder of Adams Mahama, the late Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), it is very important for the Ghana Police Service to arrest and put them before the law court to redeem their image.

“The said persons are personalities of high standing in the nation and appointees of His Excellency, President Akuffo-Addo and thus any mud thrown at them indirectly damage the image of the President and the citizenry as well. It is, thus, in accordance with the laws of natural justice, to grant these persons, an opportunity to redeem their names by putting them before the law courts,” the petition dated May 8, 2017 and signed by Bright Botchway, and George Ebo Crentsil, General Secretary and National Coordinator of YCA in part read.

The Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu, in his recent banter with the Madam Otiko Afisa Djaba over appointees for the School Feeding Program accused her and the Upper East Regional Minister for allegedly having a hand in the death of Adams Mahama.

Mr. Mahama was murdered in an acid attack at his residence in 2015.

“You could remember Adams Mahama who certainly died when he was bathed with acid, [it was through] the same secret meetings …”, Mr. Bugri Naabu alleged in an interview with Radio XYZ while responding to allegations of bribery made against him by Ms. Djaba whose “secret” meeting he scuttled on Friday.

“You’ll be surprised that some of these people who masterminded the killing of Adams have come to take positions in the government … like the Upper East Regional Minister. He was deeply involved in the masterminded killing of Adams,” Mr. Bugri Naabu further alleged on Radio XYZ.

He also said: “Otiko has been a controversial woman in the party. As I’m telling you, this Adams issue, she was deeply involved, so because of that most of us who know her will call her a controversial woman…”

The pro NDC group believes that the clue offered by Bugri Naabu could potentially lead to a break in the deadlock as to who really murdered Adams Mahama.

The arrest of Ms. Otiko and Mr. Rockson, the group insists should be a priority of the IGP in order to put the gruesome murder of the late NPP Chairman to rest.
