It has emerged that a snail seller from whom late Captain Mahama bought snails from snitched on him which led to the killing of the deceased on Monday, May 29, 2017, reports say.

A blow-by-blow account by the Police Friday revealed that the trader was the one who alerted the assemblyman through a phone call to report that the young military officer was an armed robber after she had seen the sidearm of the deceased.

The assemblyman and armed townsfolk without verification accosted the military officer, gave him a chase, shot at him, and eventually pounced on him using various implements such as cement blocks, clubs, among others, until he gave up the ghost around 10am on Monday, two hours after he started a 20km jog.

This came to light through a joint press conference with the Ghana Armed Forces at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Friday, June, 2, 2017.

However, Police have said it has advanced measures to “eradicate” mob action from the society.

Mr David Asante-Apeatu said: “The police service which I head, has already started putting measures in place to eradicate these acts of impunity. These measures include stern enforcement of the law, liaising with other relevant institutions to embark on massive public education, strengthening criminal investigations, and taking community policing to a higher level.”
