The Police Administration has offered a GHC10,000 bounty for information leading to the arrest of two armed robbers who shot and killed a policeman in broad daylight at Abeka Lapaz in Accra on Thursday afternoon.
The IGP, David Asante Apeatu who announced the bounty during the commissioning of a new structure for the Kaneshie Police Command in Accra Friday condemned the dastardly act.
He said it was unfortunate to note that a few criminally minded persons continue to perpetrate violence on innocent citizens and police officers who are supposed to provide security for the citizenry.
Daniel Owusu was several multiple times by the two daring robbers. He died later at the Police Hospital. A second policeman Dzibril Alhassan who was shot in the hand by the same robbers is currently responding to treatment.
The two were on community patrols on their motorbikes in Lapaz in Accra when they spotted the two men riding an unregistered motorbike.
The policemen then chased the robbers but were fired at in the process.
Alhassan was the first to be shot at by the suspects. He fell from his motorbike and without any weapon to fire back, and realizing his was helpless ran for his life and sought refuge at the Lapaz hospital not far from the scene.
Owusu who followed from a distance was also shot at several times, leading to his death.
The two robbers later seized a saloon car and sped off from the scene.
