The Peoples National Convention (PNC) Party says it does not support calls for a new voters register ahead of the 2016 election.

According to the party, it has been established that in all previous elections under the current fourth republic, new voters registers are prepared for each polls, but that has done little in improving elections in the country.

The largest opposition party,  the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by its Presidential Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo, has severally called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to prepare a new voters’ register.

The party insists that the fact that 56% of the 25 million Ghanaians are registered as voters is an anomaly that has to be addressed with urgency. The party has taken its campaign for a new register a notch higher by trying to get other opposition parties to join forces and put pressure on the EC to meet their demands.

NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong Tuesday engaged the PNC to court its support in stepping up the campaign but the PNC says it is disinterested.

In an interview with Kasapa News, PNC General Secretary Bernard Mornah stated that his party holds an entirely different view very which is at variance with the NPP.

“When I met Kwabena Agyepong I told him that the NPP should supply the PNC with convincing reasons why it thinks the current register is not good for the upcoming 2016 general elections; we don’t think there is the need for a new register now.”
