Government has expressed its commitment to fully implement recommendations made in the report on the June 3 flood and fire disaster that caused the death of over 154 people at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.
The presidential committee chaired by retired judge, Justice Isaac Douse which investigated the incident accused a cigarette smoker Seth Kwesi Ofosu as the cause of the fire after he dropped the lit stick in the fuel laden flood that had engulfed the Goil filling station.
Justice Isaac Douse’s committee has among other things recommended for an immediate procurement of air ambulance and helicopters with firefighting capabilities for future disaster management.
Interior Minister, Mark Woyongo has said Ghana must draw lessons from the June 3 disaster and must guard against any such future occurrence.
He emphasized the need for fuel attendants to be given the necessary training to ensure that they are well positioned to deal with such situations.
Hon. Mark Woyongo added that government will study the report and act on it appropriately.
“The issue of air ambulance is very high on the agenda of the Ministry of Interior, we strongly believe that the police not only need air ambulance but they need helicopters to facilitate their work.”
