President Nana Akufo Adddo has indicated that he’s not interesting in taking legal action against popular opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) activist, Frank Kwaku Appiah aka Appiah Stadium for defaming him.
The police on Tuesday picked up the serial caller for labeling President Akufo-Addo as a “drug addict”.
‘Appiah Stadium’ has since apologized over the comment but was rounded up by the Ashanti regional police to substantiate his allegations. He was subsequently released later Tuesday.
A statement signed by the Information Minister, Mustapha Abdul Hamid said, the President is not minded to pursue the matter because same has been ruled upon by the National Media Commission (NMC) on February 6, 2015, following a series of pro NDC newspapers making similar claims.
The statement said, Lawyers for then Candidate Akufo Addo took these papers namely: The Al- Hajj, Informer, Ghanaian Lens and the Daily Post to the NMC to afford them the opportunity to substantiate their claims, but failed to do so following which the NMC asked them to retract and apologize.
“The President is therefore, convinced that right thinking Ghanaians recognize that Appiah Stadium is merely reciting from an NDC propaganda book, which has since been discredited.
“The President has informed the Police administration that he is not interested in the matter and has advised them to be accordingly advised,” the statement added.
