Locals living in four districts of the Upper East region have been cautioned to suspend all economic activities along the white volta.

The directive comes on the heels of a move by the Burkinabe authorities to undertake the spillage of the Bagre dam today.

The Upper East Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation(NADMO) Mr. Alfred Saavog says it’s important residents comply with the directive to avoid any negative tendencies in the exercise by neighbouring Burkinabe authorities.

Speaking in an interview with an Accra-based Citi FM, he said:“We’ve received information from Burkinabe authorities who are manning the Bagre dam that the dam will be spilled today 11, August 2015.

“We want to appeal to the general public especially the communities along the white volta plain, notably Talensi, Bawku West, Bawku municipality, and also Binduri district, that people who are farming along the plain should stop all farming activities until the spillage stops.”

He stressed that although there have been efforts to dispatch rapid response team to the dam site to deal with any eventuality, residents must be extremely cautious and vacate the spot until the exercise is finished.
