A total of 452 graduands of the 2016/2017 Academic year have graduated at the 9th Congregation of the Pentecost University College (PUC) on 11th November 2017 in Accra, Ghana.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was the guest of honour was represented by the Hon. Prof Gyan Baffour, Minister for Planning.

The event was themed “Free SHS National Agenda- implications for private higher educational institutions”. The Rector of the University, Apostle Dr Daniel Walker, praised the “higher caliber of teaching staff” at PUC saying the “excellent performances of our students nationally and internationally attest to that”.

“To ensure that our students pass through our system ready for the job market and equipped with employable skills and entrepreneurial mindset, the University is adding to its teaching staff by employing some international faculty members”.

Apostle Dr Walker reiterated that “the free SHS Agenda calls for private universities to review students’ access to information outside the lecture halls.

The change in the way students, researchers and academics are accessing and studying information calls for investing in new technologies and welcoming modern design elements to create university libraries that rightly stand as shining beacons of progressive learning, far more than just a collection of books.”

To this end, the PUC library is a full member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Ghana (CARLIGH). Membership of the consortium enables PUC library to subscribe and provide easy access to over 80,000 full text scholarly electronic journal articles to enhance teaching, learning and research.

In addition, the PUC E-Library subscribes more than 26 online academic databases such as Emerald, EsbcoHost, SAGE and WHO publications.

The Honourable Minister for Planning, Prof Gyan Baffour, in his address, praised PUC for the theme of the congregation saying “it is apt and shows the readiness of Pentecost University College to support (the Free SHS Agenda), an initiative which is highly commendable”.

“I pray that other institutions of higher learning will emulate Pentecost University College to support this worthy cause”, Prof Gyan Baffour.
