A large number of criminals including land guards and drug addicts have reportedly fled Kasoa, a peri-urban town in the Awutu Senya East Municipal District of the Central region within the last 24 hours, following a police operation in the area.

The criminals have ran for cover to avoid being arrested by the police in the ongoing exercise in the area led by the Director of Operations of the Ghana Police Service, COP. Dr. George Akufo Dampare.

A huge number of police personnel from the National Special Weapons And Tactis (SWAT) team have stormed Kasoa and its environs which have witnessed increased incidents of crime including murder of innocent persons, and rapes in recent times, in a bid to clamp down on such criminal activities.

The carefully coordinated exercise by the police team excludes police officers serving in Kasoa and has seen over nearly a 100 suspected criminals being arrested in the swoop.

Several guns and other weapons have reportedly been retrieved by the police.

Journalist, Benjamin Amuzu who’s monitoring the police operation told Kasapa News that notably, cars with foreign number plates especially Nigeria ones, which are known to be common in the area and owned by young men, are missing from the streets to avoid being arrested.

He said residents are heaving a sigh of relief following the police action as Kasoa and its environs have become peaceful allowing law abiding citizens to go about their legitimate duties without fear.

The police, he noted will soon hold an identification parade for the public to identify suspects who might have attacked or harmed them.
