Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, has warned the NPP could be heading into the abyss if they don’t thread cautiously in their handling of the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM Wednesday, the respected pollster said Article 10 of the party’s constitution shouldn’t be overlooked in the handling of what so far looks like a messy situation.

“These happenings could result in a split. Apart from Agyepong, people are now firing missiles at Sammy Crabbe someone have perceived aside Agyepong and Afoko as coming from the Kuffour-Alan camp.

“To put it bluntly NDC factions are on personalities. You can’t say within the party Kuffour doesn’t have a group that are sympathetic towards him. The NPP’s factions are rooted in what caused it in 1979. It was not cast in stone. Then it was mainly Victor Owusu and Paa Willie.”

Article 10 of the party’s constitution states

“1 (a) Whenever forty percent (40%) of the delegates that elect Constituency, Regional and National officers as the case may be, give written notice to the Constituency, Regional or National Executive as the case may be, of the demand for the removal of any elected officer, the executive Committee which receives such notice shall within one (1) week of receipt of the notice circulate such notice to all delegates affected.

“(b) The petition for the removal of an officer shall be on stated grounds, a copy of which shall be given to the affected officer who shall be given the opportunity to be heard by a body constituted by the Executive Committee.

“2. Within one (1) month of the circulation of such notice referred to in clause (1), the said Executive Committee shall summon an Extraordinary Delegates Conference to deliberate and decide on the matter.”

The NPP continues to fight an existing party crisis that has suggested all is not well with the Danquah-Busia-Dombo establishment.

Series of meetings have been held nationwide by its regional executives to as it were begin an impeachment process of General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, and Chairman Paul Afoko, both some party faithfuls say are responsible for the deepening cracks ahead of the 2016 elections.
