The Supreme Court has dismissed a lawsuit brought before it by two NDC Members of Parliament challenging the appointment of Otiko Djaba as Minister for Gender and Social Protection.

A seven-member panel of justices presided over by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo described the writ as incompetent.

The court declined to hear the matter before it in view of the fact that the lawyer for the two plaintiffs, Godwin Tamakloe, did not have a valid Solicitor General’s license, when he issued the writ.

This follows an objection by lawyers for the Minister, led by Nutifafa Kuenyehia, which accused the counsel for the plaintiffs, Godwin Tamakloe, of not possessing a valid license to practice at the time he issued the writ.

Lawyer Tamakloe told the court he applied for a renewed license but was not ready when he issued the writ.

NDC Members of Parliament, Ashaiman’s Ernest Norgbey and MP for the Juaboso Constituency, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh sued the Minister in February over the contention that she failed to undertake the mandatory National Service, a reason she cannot hold the office as a Minister.
