Parliament reconvenes today, Friday 5th January, 2018 in an emergency sitting to consider a motion filed by the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament, calling for investigations into the alleged fee charged expatriates by the Ministry of Trade & Industry which ran into US$100,000.00 at a recent event.
The Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye, recalled Parliament in pursuant to Article 112(3) and Order 38 of the Standing Orders of the House which allows 15 percent of Members to request the Speaker to summon a Sitting of the House to consider pertinent issues that have been brought to the attention of the Speaker.
The Minority NDC MPs on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, tabled a motion for the Speaker to summon a Sitting of the House in respect over the US$100,000 expatriates saga.
The motion was moved by the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Asawase, Mohammed Muntaka-Mubarak and seconded by the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The duo want Parliament to take urgent steps towards investigating the matter properly.
