The Ashanti regional police command has arrested seven suspects believed to be involved in the shooting of two police officers who were returning from duty on Thursday dawn 11 January at Drobonso in the Sekyere Afram Plains District of the Ashanti region.
On Thursday January 11, 2018 two policemen Inspector Adolph Muste and Constable Asinyo all at Kumawu Police Station who were returning from official duty at Drobonso were attacked, shot and killed by armed men on the Ohwan Mountains.
A statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Police Commander COP Ken Yeboah stated that seven suspects have been arrested and two others are at large but the police are closing in on them at their hideouts.
According to the statement, all the seven are Fulani’s, made up of four persons who were involved in the robbery and murder of the policemen and other travelers on the road. The remaining are two cattle owners and financiers of the gang and one other who sells and distributes weapons to the gang.
The suspects were arrested at their hideout at Kwamang in the Ashanti Region, Jema, Yeji and Prang all in the Brong Ahafo Region.
“Two shot guns and one locally made pistol and Seventeen live cartridges have been retrieved from them. The motives for the murder were to rob, kill security personnel and take their weapons in reprisal attack on Fulani herdsmen and their cattle at and its environs. The Command is still conducting investigations in the case and therefore has withheld their names for security reasons. The names of the suspects will be released in due course” the statement said.
The Command is assuring the public of their commitment to bring all culprits to justice and reduce all manner of crimes to the barest minimum in the region. It further appealed to the general public to volunteer information about activities of suspected criminals within the community.
