Some five out of six reported cases of Bird Flu in Ghana, have been confirmed by the Noguchi Memorial Institute.

This follows tests conducted on samples received by the outfit on May 15 from two farms in Achimota and Tema, all in the Greater Accra Region, the facility has said.

Despite fears of a possible outbreak the institute says they are yet to conduct tests on the humans who handled the birds at the time.

Officials have asked for calm while veterinary officers investigate and quarantine suspected areas.

Avian influenza (AI), also known as bird flu, is an infectious viral disease of birds. Most bird flu viruses do not infect humans.
