A 37 year old Mohammed Musah a self styled electrician, who tampered with a prepaid meter belonging to Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Kumasi Circuit Court 4.

He pleaded guilty to intentionally interfering or knowingly allowing interference with ECG distribution system of power.

The court presided over by His Honor Ekow John Mensah convicted Mohammed on his own plea.

The court sentenced Mohammed Musah 5 years imprisonment after he failed to pay a fine of GH¢8400.

Mr Erasmus Baidoo, Ashanti Regional Public Relations Manager of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) speaking in an interview with Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo warned Ghanaians especially electricians to refrain from tempering Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) prepaid meters.

“Now we are working with the Police and we will make sure that those tempering Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) prepaid meters are arrested and face the law. We are serious about this fight and we will fight till we win” he said.

Meanwhile three persons have been arrested for impersonating as ECG staff at Kyerekrom in the Ashanti region.
