President Akufo-Addo has sworn-in former Attorney General Martin A.B.K Amidu as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor.

Amidu took the oath of office at a short event held at the Flagstaff House on Friday, 23 February 2018.

This comes after his nomination was unanimously approved by Parliament Tuesday following a grueling vetting.

The former Attorney General and Minister for Justice was nominated by President Akufo-Addo as the First ever Special Prosecutor in January this year.

Parliament passed the Office of the Special Prosecutor Bill in November last year, which allows for the establishment of an independent anti-corruption institution to deal with public officials who have been deemed or found liable to corrupt dealings.

The law now gives power to the new independent prosecutor who’s tasked with the responsibility of prosecuting past and present public officers deemed to have been corrupt.
