A total of 306 students at Asuom Islamic Basic School in the Eastern region use only one computer for ICT practicals.
This has affected the performance of students in the BECE over the years.
Asuom Islamic Basic School in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern Region was established by the Ghana Muslim Mission and the Asuom Muslim Community in 1985.
The classrooms were made with palm frond but in 1988, the Ghana Muslim Mission raised funds to put up a mud-made six units pavilion classroom for the primary school and later added the JHS.
The classrooms have not been renovated since its construction therefore its condition keep deteriorating. The roof are in taters hence academic work disrupted whenever it rains.Teachers and pupils are always at the mercy of the harsh weather condition.
The Headmaster of the School, Isaac Nkansah Gyekye told Ghone News, the poor condition of the school affected enrolment as many parents are reluctant to enroll their children into the school.
Currently, the total population of Asuom Islamic School is 306 and the school is faced with other challenges such as inadequate teaching and learning materials as well Computers.
The school has two computers but only one is functioning for ICT Practicals. The Headmaster says the situation is affecting performance of students in ICT subject of the Basic Education Certificate Examination.
To save the School from collapse, the Ghana Muslim Mission has handed over a six units classroom block,Masjid, borehole water, and a toilet facility to the school.
The National Chairman of Ghana Muslim Mission(GMM) , Sheik Dr. Amin Bonsu ,told Ghone News, the facility will improve performance of pupils. He bemoaned the high rate of corruption in the country despite poor living standards of many rural Ghanaians.
He therefore suggested to teachers to conscientize pupils about the effect of the canker.
The District Chief Executive for Kwaebibirem, Seth Antwi Bosiako told Ghone News, the district is very deprived with lots of challenges therefore the facility is a relief to the Assembly. He was optimistic performance of pupils will improve.
