Youth and Sports Minister Isaac Kwame Asiamah has charged Team Ghana to go for gold in the Commonwealth Games which kick start today in Gold Coast, Australia.
Ahead of the Games, Isaac Kwame Asiamah together with Ghana Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Edwin Nii Adjei met the Team in Gold Coast on Tuesday night and gave them his words of encouragement and inspiration as they embark on this two weeks 71 nations’ competition.
Asiamah speaking to the Team said “You are here to make a history and also to show your patriotism, as a country of about 29 million population you were the only ones chosen to lift the flag of Ghana high and to me this is a high responsibility for you.
“I have the feeling that you can make it, we all know the history of Commonwealth Games and to me Ghana is the only country which was once called Gold Coast so this means you are at home and you must go for the ultimate, Asiamah added”
In relating to the challenge thrown by the Hon. Sports Minister Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Team Ghana Captain Botso Nkepke welcomed the task by the Minister and was confident the team will make great impact in the games.
Ghana have competed in fifteen Commonwealth Games, beginning in 1954 and missing only the 1986 Games in Edinburgh. Ghana have won fifty-one medals at the Commonwealth Games, including fifteen gold, with all but one of their medals coming in athletics and boxing.
