More than 313,000 Senior High School (SHSs) day students are to benefit from the government’s progressively free SHS policy.

The beneficiary students are from 591 selected senior high schools in the Ashanti Region and 88 in Volta, 82 in the Eastern and 67 in Brong Ahafo. 56 in Western and 54 in the Central Region, while 46 and 45 of such schools are in the Greater Accra and Northern Regions.

A statement by the Acting Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Jacob Kor, said 28 and 23 of those schools are in the Upper East and West Regions.

The statement therefore gave the assurance that the government is committed to the progressively free SHS policy starting from the 2015/16 academic year insisting that the release of the 2015/16 approved fees for the second cycle institutions will not in any way affect the roll-out of the progressively free SHS policy.

The statement however said day students who are already covered by other forms of scholarship scheme are not beneficiaries of the progressively free scholarship policy.
